We took our final test for The Misfits on chapters 21-30. IF YOU WERE ABSENT, PLEASE TAKE THE QUIZ ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
Students received VOCABULARY UNIT #4. This packet is due THURSDAY, OCT. 26.
Friday, Oct. 27, is the FINAL DAY to turn in any late/missing/incomplete work for Quarter 1. I'm simply reminding everyone of this as I sent this message out about a week ago and the date is swiftly approaching.
We are currently working on our first Letter-Essay. Students will use their reading of The Misfits for this first L-E. Former students are reviewing their knowledge of this assignment and acting as mentor/teacher for those who are new to our class and unfamiliar with the assignment. Today, students were introduced to the requirements, the editing/highlighting sheet, and the assessment rubric. They were also given two Letter-Essay examples (one written by a teacher and one by a student). Students should be able to share these items with you as they were to have them taped in their Writing/Reading Notebook (WRN). Over the next two days, students will look at a number of other student samples from a range of skill levels. They will discuss their merits and challenges as a way to get more familiar with the standards and the requirements of the assignment. Students will write their first L-E with the support of their student mentor/teacher. The mentor will be writing a response Letter-Essay to their "student." If a mentor has more than one "student", they will write to one and verbally conference with the others so everyone gets some important feedback. I will be meeting with each group and giving feedback and support as well. This assignment will not appear on student's Q1 report card. It will show up in Q2.
