"Raised By..." poetry workshop
- Checked on and reviewed the weekend homework - more brainstorming for ideas that will "fill the well".
- In small groups - discussed/shared brainstorming ideas. Borrowed (stole) ideas from each other. Discussed what we "took," what resonated with us.
- Read student examples of poems. Shared ideas out to whole class about what we noticed about the writing the student did. How did they break out of the framework of Ms. Ellis's poem ("Raised By Women") and made the poem their own, versus just trying to mimic what she created.
- We also explored how to change the verb RAISED. In what other ways could this word/phrase be created? What are synonyms for RAISED? What are short phrases that are a play on the idea of being raised?
